I use a range of techniques alongside hypnotherapy to enhance the effectiveness of the treatment. These techniques include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP),  Emotionally Focussed Therapy (EFT) and Mindfulness.

Hypnosis is a natural state of deep relaxation, it can also be called a trance state. We all experience being in a trance every day without even realising it. Have you ever driven to work and once you’ve arrived not even remembered how you got there?

Smoking Cessation

Hypnosis is an excellent tool to help you quit the habit of smoking. This is normally done in 1 session of around 90 minutes, with a free follow-up session if required. You will also be provided with a recording to use at home to reinforce the work done in the session.

The nicotine addiction is overcome quite quickly, it is the habit that is harder to break. Hypnosis retrains the mind to help you overcome this meaning that you are more likely to achieve your goal of remaining a non-smoker in the long term.

Weight Control

We all know that we should eat healthily and exercise regularly to help us lose weight, but more often than not this is not enough. There are many other issues that can contribute to us not being able to shift the pounds. This could be for reasons including stress, anxiety, poor self-esteem, amongst others. Hypnotherapy can help you to get to the root of the problem and deal with it effectively allowing you to achieve your weight loss goal.

Improving your stress and anxiety levels by using hypnosis and deep relaxation techniques will start you on the road to a brighter and more positive future.

PAIN MANAGEMENT

One important focus of pain management involves examining the link between the body and mind. For many people, stress and anxiety are commonly experienced alongside pain and can exacerbate pain.

The perception of physical sensations is directly linked with the way that the mind responds to pain. Focusing on changing the thought patterns related to pain can make a huge difference to pain perception, and help to reduce associated stress.

Hypnosis enables you to focus on relaxation and let go of any distracting thoughts, by temporarily tuning out the conscious part of your mind. Hypnosis also opens you up to the power of suggestion – at which point we can make suggestions to encourage pain relief.

You should always speak to your doctor first about any problems with pain, but hypnotherapy can certainly help with managing your pain.

Phobias

A phobia is a real fear. It can be completely irrational and you may even feel embarrassed by it, you may not even know where it came from. The good news is that phobias can be treated very successfully with hypnotherapy.

The phobia (or fear) is triggered by the subconscious ‘fight or flight’ response, therefore by using hypnosis to deal directly with your subconscious mind we can change your response to the situation. Nobody is born with a phobia, so together we can work out the root cause, deal with it, and confront it calmly with the use of hypnosis. We will gently build up your exposure to your phobia and ease the associated anxiety.

Insomnia

Insomnia can affect us all at times. Lack of sleep can be the cause of so many other problems in our life. The more you worry about not being able to get a good nights sleep, the more likely you are to NOT get a good nights sleep – and so the cycle continues.

Hypnotherapy can be a useful tool to combat insomnia by dealing with your stress and anxiety, and learning how to calm your mind allowing you to get the sleep you so badly need.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

Irritable Bowel Syndrome can cause anything from mild to extreme discomfort and pain and can affect your daily life.

Fife Hypnotherapy is run by lead hypnotherapist Charlotte Donaldson.

Charlotte worked a large part of her adult life as an accountant. However, always wanted to seek out something more – something more meaningful and fulfiling to her. That’s when she discovered and studied hypnotherapy and the incredible results it can deliver. This was a life-changing experience for Charlotte and from that moment, she vowed to put all her energy into providing help and support to those around her. Charlotte now holds five professional qualifications including two diplomas in hypnotherapy and is accredited by both the National Council for Hypnotherapy and the Complimentary and Natural Healthcare Council. She holds a masters degree in the Usui method of Reiki and also trained in the Jikiden method.

What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a natural state of deep relaxation which allows us to access the subconscious part of our mind. The part of our mind which is open to suggestion at a much deeper level than the conscious part. This allows us to make the changes required to reach our goals.

Is hypnosis safe?

Hypnosis carried out by a trained therapist is safe. You will always be in control, no one can make you do or say anything that you don’t want to do or say. You will always have the ability to come out of hypnosis whenever you wish to.

How does it feel to be hypnotised?

Being in a hypnotic trance is a bit like being in a daydream. You will have the ability to hear everything the therapist says, and be able to respond. Some people become so relaxed that they choose to drift off and not consciously pay attention to everything being said, but your subconscious mind is hearing everything. You will always come out of hypnosis, you will never be stuck there.

Can anyone be hypnotised?

Anyone who is open to the idea can experience hypnosis. It is true that some people are more readily hypnotisable than others, but anyone who can allow themselves to relax, focus their mind and follow instructions will be able to experience a level of hypnosis.

What does a session comprise of?

The initial consultation is where we will discuss your issues and what you expect the outcome of treatment to be. We can discuss and agree on a treatment plan and cover any questions you may have regarding the process.

Subsequent sessions will comprise of an initial catch up of any progress or problems since our last meeting followed by the treatment itself. We will end the session by going over what we have covered and agreeing on the next step.

How long is each session?

The initial free consultation will last approximately 30 minutes. Treatment sessions will normally last up to 1 hour (with the exception of Smoking Cessation). Smoking Cessation is usually one 90 minute session.

How many sessions will I need?

This will vary and will depend on the issue, it will be discussed at the initial consultation and reviewed regularly.
